KHAO LAK

Cape Pakarang Khao Lak
Khao Lak

Khao Lak is approximately 100 kilometers north of Phuket Town in Phang Nga Province and is a beautiful area of beaches, jungles and waterfalls.  Do not come here if you are after huge shopping malls, crowds, nightclubs or full on party places, this is the perfect time out place with plenty of natural attractions, magnificent beaches, National Parks, local markets and good restaurants.

Khao Lak is spread out over 3 main areas, Bang La On, Bang Niang and Khuk Khak so it is much easier if you have your own transport.  Our fist visit here the main highway through was only 2 lanes, there was no supermarket and very few shopping areas.

It has changed so much over the years and has gained a lot in popularity, the highway is now 4 lanes, there are traffic lights, supermarkets, even a McDonalds but it has not lost it's peaceful charm.

Khao Lak was hit extremely hard by the 2004 Tsunami, with a death toll of possibly up to 10,000 people, however the economy and infrastructure has bounced back.

The area is very family friendly and the choices of hotels range from budget beach front to high end resorts, there is something to suit everyone along its 25 kilometers of quiet pristine beaches.

Just over an hour’s drive away is Khao Sok National Park, find yourself a good map and take a drive down the back roads of this amazing area.

Khao Lak is also a very convenient place to base yourself for trips to the world famous Similan Islands, rated as one of the world’s top ten diving destinations by scuba divers worldwide.

There really is something for everyone at Khao Lak.
