SAI RUNG WATERFALL KHAO LAK
We came across Sai Rung often called Rainbow Waterfall quite by accident and had originally set off looking for a different waterfall.
After a few hours of driving through beautiful countryside and stopping and asking numerous times where the waterfall was, we decided to head back to the hotel for a swim.
We were nearly back into Khao Lak and there we saw it, a sign saying Rainbow Waterfall. It might not have been the waterfall we were looking for, but we had been driving for so long we did not care!
The sign was very old, wooden and falling to pieces, but we decided to turn off and follow the track to see where we would end up.
We came to the end of the track and started walking, we could hear water so knew it was not far. Then we saw a wooden plank going over a little creek and an old Thai woman doing her washing in it. She indicated to us to cross over and pointed up to the right.
Off we went and there it was.
Rainbow Waterfall is not big, but it is very pretty and best of all there is a small swimming hole there. We were the only people there and it was lovely, there is also a tiny drink stall, but it was closed.
Apparently, locals come here a lot on weekends so it can be pretty packed.
To find Rainbow Waterfall continue on the main road towards Takua Pa, you reach the turnoff for Pakarang Cape after about 7 kilometers.
Continuing straight on after 2 km you will reach the turnoff on the right to Rainbow waterfall or Sairung waterfall in Thai, the sign is on the left hand side, it is a bit tricky because after taking the turnoff to the right one you have to turn right again after less than one km, there is only a small wooden sign indicating this.
Our first visit to Rainbow Waterfall was in 2007, then we went back again 10 years later, absolutely nothing has changed except the dirt road is now paved and the planks across the creek have been changed, so my photos are a mixture of our visits over many years.
